Sound familiar?

openclaw installed successfully!Then nothing worked.

You're not bad at this. The self-hosting process is just hard. Especially if you're not a developer.

That's why we built Molted.

It's misleading. Expect to spend hours if you're not a developer. I had to upgrade Node, install Homebrew, install Xcode, and manually update NPM before I could even run the installer.

Developer documenting their install attempt

'openclaw installed successfully!' was misleading. npm failed during installation, so the CLI was never properly installed. I got a success message, started onboarding, then got an error.

My own experience was somewhere in the middle. Setup was manageable, but post-install behavior surprised me... the AI started taking actions that were technically within permissions I'd granted but not what I would have chosen.

For everyone

Not a developer? Perfect.

  • Visual setup wizard guides you step by step
  • Just paste your API key. We handle the rest

Security architecture

What we can't do.

We designed it that way. OpenClaw handles your calendars, emails, and passwords. Here's how we make sure nobody, including us, can access your data.

We can't read your API keys

Your keys are encrypted with AES-256-GCM (authenticated encryption) before storage. Decryption only happens inside your isolated container. We never see the plaintext.

AES-256-GCM · per-instance key derivation

We can't access your container

Each instance runs in its own isolated container with dedicated storage and network. No shared processes, no shared state. Your container can't see others, and others can't see yours.

Instance isolation · dedicated storage · no shared credentials

Nobody can forge commands to your bot

Every instruction sent to your instance is cryptographically signed with Ed25519. Your bot verifies the signature before executing anything. Forging commands is mathematically impossible.

Ed25519 signatures · per-instance key pairs

File access expires in 5 minutes

Files sync through presigned URLs scoped to a single file with a 5-minute TTL. Your container never stores infrastructure credentials. Even in a worst case, the blast radius is one file.

Presigned URLs · 5-min TTL · single-object scope

100% open-source engine

OpenClaw is open source. You can audit exactly what runs inside your container. No black boxes, no hidden code.

Why they switched to Molted

Setup took 2 minutes. Seriously.

I spent 2 days trying to self-host OpenClaw. Dependency issues, firewall config, SSL certs... Molted had it running in under a minute. Now it checks me into flights and manages my calendar. Now it checks me into flights and manages my calendar.

Marcus C.
Founder, DevTools Startup

Was running OpenClaw on my own VPS. Woke up to 3am crashes twice last month. Migrated to Molted - same bot, zero ops. Now it manages my email while I sleep. Actually sleep

Raj M.
Product Manager, Series B

Security was my concern with self-hosting. API keys exposed, port open... Molted handles all that. Encrypted, monitored, auto-patched.I just use my assistant.

Why it matters

The real cost of DIY..

OpenClaw is powerful. That's exactly why misconfigured instances are dangerous.

API Key Theft

Someone scans port 18789, finds your exposed instance, extracts your API keys from memory or config.

$500-5000 in unauthorized API calls

Data Exfiltration

OpenClaw has access to your calendar, emails, files. An exposed instance = all that data, accessible.

Personal data leaked, calendar scraped

Remote Code Execution

OpenClaw can run shell commands. Wrong permissions = attacker runs commands on your machine.

PSA: Check your OpenClaw security NOW

Did a Shodan scan for fun. Found hundreds of OpenClaw/MoltBot instances with port 18789 exposed. Most had default configs. Some had API keys in plain text environment variables. If you self-host, please at least put it behind a firewall. This is exactly why I switched to Molted

Quick questions

What can it actually do?

Manage your calendar, draft emails, book travel, organize files, run shell commands, browse the web, remember your preferences. If you can do it on a computer, it probably can too.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. That's the whole point. Our visual setup wizard guides you through everything. You'll paste your API key, pick your channels (WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.), and you're done. If you can use Google Docs, you can use Molted.

Is my data safe?

Yes. AES-256 encryption, secrets never stored in plaintext, port never exposed, we can't access your API keys. Security isn't optional here.

Why not just self-host?

You can, if you're a developer. But hundreds of self-hosted bots get exposed every month. You'll spend 10+ hours on setup, debug crashes at 3am, and still wonder if your API keys are safe. We did the hard part so anyone can use it.

What if it breaks?

We detect it in seconds and auto-restart. If there's a persistent issue, we fix it. You sleep through the night. That's literally the point.

Can I migrate from self-hosted?

Yes. Export your config, import it here, done in 5 minutes. We'll help if you get stuck.

Which API keys are supported?

Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, and Gemini API keys all work. You can also use your Claude Pro/Max subscription token. OpenRouter is a great option with free daily requests and access to dozens of models.

You know how to self-host. You just don't want to.
